Sustainability

Councils can be short sighted, thinking about the immediate concern rather than the results 10 and 20 years into the future. What’s at risk? Local business, because of high taxes, skyrocketing rent, and it is increasingly difficult to retain employees when there is no rental housing. The environment has been put at risk, because of lack of meaningful process and consultation. Young families and their children will likely find it difficult to find jobs, housing, and school space, with many major developments on the horizon.

CAC’s must be increased to ensure Squamish’s sustainability as a community, with not just necessary infrastructure such as sewers and fire halls, but amenities such as an up to date recreation centre, maintained parks, undamaged and rehabilitated green spaces, social housing, rental housing, and safe roads, bike paths and trails.
